Rats and Double Rats!

Just a quick check in before tomorrows op. I have a copious amount of leopard print wear during my stay! I am as ready as I can be and will be out of surgery by 12 noon! Just in time for lunch! ;-D

Anyway I have been too busy with another drama to be worrying much today. I have had a family of rats move in to my garden, apparently they were living under next doors shed which was demolished a few weeks ago! Although they are very very cute, my dogs have been driven feral with their presence. I went everywhere looking for a humane rat trap only to be me with 'humane??' and offers of poison or rat traps that break their backs. Finally I found a humane rat trap, kind of a cage thing really. Caught mummy rat on day 1 and relocated her and a good supply of food to a local piece of woodland.

The problem came with a juvenile rat last night. Caught him in the trap and put the trap in my van - I have a big VW Transporter ready to drive him up to the same place his mum was released. Then disaster struck, the cage tipped up and ratty was released into the vast space of my van! He has not been seen since. I am not scared of rats and he is very cute but I am worried in case it gets sunny (as if) and he gets baked to death. Also I was going to put my hospital bags in the car ready for the 7am start but can you imagine if the little fella pops out of my bag on the ward! YIKES!!!

The trap is set in the hope that I will catch him overnight in my car and release him tomorrow! Good job it is not a spider on the loose or I would be getting a taxi to the hospital tomorrow!

Hi Annie, good luck for tomorrow, hope all goes well and will be thinking of you.
Your very brave with the rats,I'm scared stiff of them,We have a bit of a rat problem around this area too,I have to be very careful with what I put out for the birds. We had a much bigger pond when we moved here and the guy that built it dumped all the soil he dug out and made a mount and covered it with membrane! nice and cosy for a big rat family,Rosie used to go besirck every time she went out there and we had no idea why until we saw Roland drinking out of the pond and then all his family! Hubby had a massive job clearing the mound and captured so many,I couldnt go out there for months.take care sweet, xxx.

Thinking of you for tomorrow. Perhaps we should have considered some leopard print scrubs for the surgical team. Hope young Ratty turns up in good time, and preferably not on the ward. Bx

Good luck for tomorrow. I loved your rat story - hilarious! I'm sure you don't need to worry about him, they're pretty resourceful. But yeah fingers crossed he doesn't make an appearance on the ward!

Only you Annie could pull up outside the hospital clothed from head to tail in leopard skin, topped off with a 'live' Davy Crockett hat, complete of course with the long furry tail.

Just show 'em your t*ts and all will be well lassie. You mark my words!

Annie all I will say is although the idea of rats would freak me out at least this little drama is a slight distraction for today. Good luck with the op, sending you hugs. Remember to start doing you physio in a few days. I was a bit forgetful but it really does help xx

Hi Annie
I really admire you dealing with rats so kindly whilst having so many bigger concerns!
Sorry but I hate them after being traumatised by a rat which lived under our kitchen cupboards and evaded our attempts to catch it
Will be thinking of you and hope op goes smoothly and alls well afterwards
much love Heather x

Thank you for being humane! I had a problem up at the allotment with rats coming into my compost till I planted mint and peppermint around it ( they don't like it you know)

Wishing you well and sending hugs Cass

Good luck for tomorrow.

We have rats or mice under our shed and Elsie goes ballistic. I'm afraid we're not as kind as you though... xx

Caddy, you're a better woman than I am. I get deliveries of dead baby rats nearly every day from my cats and I have to confess that I don't cry over them like I do with the mice and birds.... I just really really don't like rats. Hope tomorrow goes as well as it can and that you get a hunky male nurse to look after you. xxxx

Naughty Rat - when you were being "Kind Auntie Annie" too and not killing him with nasty poisons... Someone should speak seriously with that ratty!

I do hope your op went well today. Sorry I was late with the good wishes... haven't been so fit this week and not using the computer much.
I wish you a very speedy recovery! X

Missed this post! You are very brave, as I am terrified by rats & mice! Spiders I can tolerate, I had to remove a large one with the help of a tissue, when 3 men ran away!!!
Hope you're recovering well, good luck with it all, and look forward to seeing you soon :)
Hugs (((( ))))
