...but I know I should be grateful that the Dr's have been thorough. I had been told that there was unlikely to be anything but pre-cancerous breast tissue that might need a lumpectomy. Today I was asked to go in on friday for more biopsies in order for them to decide whether I needed a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. This had never even been hinted at. The Consultant said that they were really sorry and that they had expected a lower level of growth and that it had really caught them out! The believe the cancerous cells have not spread but that they need to be sure! Twenty four biopsies later and I am looking to make it around 40 + in total. MASTECTOMY??? Where did that one come from???

Oh Annie, I'm so sorry. I have been wondering how you got on. It really does sound very odd that they needed quite so many attempts to decide the lie of the land and it really doesn't sound good that this is the first you're hearing of a serious surgical option. I hope someone with a little more experience of both procedures can come along and reassure you.

Hi Annie, sorry to hear that your news wasn't as positive as you were hoping. As you say though at least the Docs are being thorough and although that is a lot for you to be going through, at least they do have a plan of action for you. Oh, Annie....I do feel for you, hun.
I was actually told I would have to have a mastectomy BEFORE they even told me I had cancer!! They'd messed me about so much that I asked my GP to get me another opinion....and so glad I did! One group of cancerous cells, and one group of pre-cancerous cells, all in the same breast, but my new surgeon was confident, after doing a very detailed ultra sound, that she could take them all out....and she did! Still got me hooters, and am waiting to get the 5 year All-Clear in October.....so please stay positive, and fight like a girl!
Thats not so good news, so sorry. So glad you've got good medical people on your side. My mum had pre cancerous cells and had a lumpectomy. I was only talking the other day to an old school friend who had breast cancer at 39. Please let us know how you go on, we'll all be there for ya!

You've come this far don't lose that positive attitude at the first setback. They are dealing with it and you can get through it. Make that decision and then start organising the crafting you will need to have at hand when you don't feel like doing exciting stuff like.... housework and shopping.
